Other Name: Raphanus sativus

Period/Seasonal Colour: Red, pink, white, gray-black, or yellow radishe.

Height: 6 inches to 18 inches.

Where To Plant: Radishes need sun. If they are planted in too much shade—or even where neighboring vegetable plants shade them—they put all their energy into producing larger leaves.

When To Plant: Radishes can be planted in both the spring and the fall, but growing should be suspended in the warmer months.

How To Plant: Fill the plant pot with soil. Make some holes in the soil about 1cm deep. Drop a seed into each one and cover it with soil. Water them a little and leave the pot in a warm place.

Added Benefits: Folate, fiber, riboflavin, and potassium, as well as good amounts of copper, vitamin B6, magnesium, manganese, and calcium are less prominent nutrients that support the healthy properties of radishes.

Tips: Pull some of the seedlings out so that the ones left behind are about 2.5 cm apart. This is called thinning seedlings. It is important because the radishes need space to grow well. You could use the leaves of the seedlings you pull out in salad. Remember to wash them first!
